Garfield the cat doesn’t actually speak, so what would Garfield the comic look like if he just wasn’t there? Apparently it would look like Jon is a mental patient.

About Brian:
I'm a recent graduate living in San Francisco. Supposedly, I'm also the "visionary". In reality, I'm just their taskmaster. I'm currently employed as an Associate Product Manager at Google.

There are nearly 20 tabs opened in Firefox now, so you know what that means… time to write a post. The argument could be made that too many YouTube videos is a bad thing, and for the most part I’m inclined to agree. However! I spent a long time yesterday mesmerized by them, and seeing as some of our readers are discriminating fans of music (I’m looking at you, Sean, zxo), it seemed appropriate.

First, for your viewing “pleasure”, a video described only as “perhaps the greatest video in the history of music”. Yngwie Malmsteen’s I’ll See The Light Tonight:

I’m a big proponent of Yngwie being “heard and not seen” and this only confirms my decision. If you can’t bear watching the video, at least listen to his solo - or better yet, check out his other work like Arpeggios from Hell.

Next up, something a bit more tasteful. While strolling through Metafilter yesterday, I came across a post on Tommy Emmanuel. How I had never heard of him boggles my mind. I thought I’d seen/heard good fingerpicking, but I was oh so wrong. The videos of him are endless - and I can only pick one. I was torn between the Beatles Medley and the Guitar Boogie, but settled on the latter since you can see his hands. They shine like justice.

Oh what the hell.

Tommy and Keith Urban having some improv fun at Nashville:

Enjoy!

Hey, I have a strict non-discrimination policy! Well, except for 80’s hair music and blues/rockabilly*. For some reason those just don’t do it for me. I’d probably still go see Tommy live though; I bet he puts on a kickass show.

*and gangsta rap and bubble-gum pop and overplayed oldies and anything less tonal than Melt Banana, and any band in the surge of copycats following a hip musical style breakthrough, and musicals, and opera, and…

Well, I really meant discriminating in the good sense. You know… like, avoids drivel. :) Too bad about the 80’s hair metal and blues… I love both of those. Skid Row 4 Life!
